i subscribe to an online news release website. With this morning's offerings came the following headline:
Author Gary Jouett II Releases New Book Detailing Shocking Evidence that Proves the Antichrist Will Be Jewish
After reading the entire news release, it became apparent that the author, even though claiming not to, was presenting another bash in the long history of anti-Jewish rhetoric.
Again, from the news release: According to Professor Jouett, the book took more than a year to research and write. "This book was definitely a work that I was inspired to write, given the current state of our world economy and the cry for New Light," he stated.
Christians have been accusing all kinds of people of being the antichrist over the last 15 or 16 centuries. Kings, popes, business leaders, Muslims, you name it. But the biggest suspect has always been a Jew.
Loving, caring Christians have been bashing Jews since the Early Church days. Many in America were glad to see the Nazis leading those death marches to the ovens and concentration camps before and during World War II. It appears not much has changed.
I recall members of my own family--all of them "good" Christians--back in the 1950s bitching about how the Jews were destroying America, how they had to be stopped, and how God had used Hitler to begin the process. The only reason Hitler didn't succeed, according to one of my relatives, was because he also killed too many good Allied Christians. God hated the Jews for not accepting Jesus as their Messiah. He intended to bring his wrath down upon them. I bought into it for a while (I was a kid, for God's sake!). Fortunately, not for long.
Most of the churches I attended as a young person also upheld the idea that God's worst wrath was being prepared for the un-Christianized Jews.
Rumor has it (you can find radical websites about this all over the Internet so no big news, right?), there are currently groups of radical Christians who want to blow up the Dome of the Rock mosque in Jerusalem so the Jewish temple can be rebuilt, thus hastening the return of Jesus and the setting up of his earthly kingdom from that city. The belief is, no Second Coming until that temple is up and running. Of course, the Jewish leadership will be furious if the Dome goes up in smoke. (Talk about your international incident!) Out of that group of nasty Jews, according to some, will come, supposedly, the antichrist. And then, Apocalypse Now.
One more quote from the news release: Although the book claims to provide the strongest proof that the Antichrist has to be Jewish and what his literal name will be, the author assures the readers that there are no anti-Semitic motives behind the work.
Give me a break, Gary Jouett II. Your book is just another mean-spirited weapon in the Christian arsenal, aimed at the heart of Judaism, and ready to fire no matter the cost. You just can't--won't--let it go. And you are dead wrong on all counts.
I'm all for freedom of the press; you can write whatever drivel you want. It remains, however, that you and your ilk are the real danger in this world.

You know, it would be easy to just deny this comment, but I won't. And the reason I won't is simple. Those who take the Book of Revelation as any kind of actual truth have totally missed the mark. The damned book was almost left out of the New Testament Canon. It was, get this, voted in by a slim margin. And even after that, it caused turmoil among the Fathers. The Book of Revelation is an afterthought and not even worth the paper it's printed on. Even to this day, the various branches of Christianity don't agree on its premises.
I am not a liberal. I am a progressive and there is a major difference. I grew up in an evangelical Christian background so I know the dangers of that path. When I was in my mid-30s, I woke up to the evil inherent in that form of Christianity. Today, I stand for justice, for freedom, for the end of any kind of tyrannical religious oppression--in the world, or in the heart.
You, my friend, are the one who has apparently been duped. You are the one who seems to carry the anger, the annoyance, the hatred of those who do not believe as you do. You are the one who not only claims that people like me are going to hell; you can't wait for it to happen. You remind me of St. Thomas Aquinas who said, and I paraphrase, that one of the joys of heaven will be the ability to peer over the edge of the abyss to watch the condemned writhing in agony. Perhaps you'll be able to watch one of your parents, or a child, or a friend who didn't take your path. Won't that be fun?
The difference between you and me? I do not wish to see you in agony for any reason, here or in any afterlife. But even more important, I do not wish for anyone to be caught up in that hideous fear-filled doctrine of the Rapture, the End Times, the Apocalypse. I intend to spend the rest of my life gently leading those who will follow out of that morass, that pit, that lie.
It was a lie in the beginning; it is a lie now; it will be a lie until the end of time.
Nonetheless, I respect you and wish you a good journey. I know you mean well even though you are misguided. Perhaps one day you, too, will come out of the dark.
Ask any Nazi if there is a difference among Jews in their opinion. I stand by my post. I still believe the book Jouett has written is anti-semitic. Shalom!

First, which Holy Bible do you take as Truth--King James, Doue Rheim, New Revised, International Revised, Eastern Orthodox, Gnostic, 10th century Greek, Textus Receptus? Sixteenth Century German, fourth century Nicaean, Circle Cross, Bar Cross--I mean, the choices among Truths are endless. Icons, no icons, Catholic, Early Protestant, Late Protestant, Darby, Miller, Amy Semple M., Oral R., Billy G., Mormon, JW, Gino Jennings of First Church of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ-Philadelphia and of current (questionable) fame? My God, the list goes on and on.
And yes, I saw the videos of Building Seven's 47 or so floors falling like pancakes (controlled blast theory and all), and the gazillion dynamite blasts in the Twin Towers, and I've heard all the stuff about the planes and Osama being in cahoots with the White House, and...well, you get it. I have heard all the stuff about 9/11 and the set-ups, and the international cartels, and everything all the way back to Andrew Carnegie. I'm not a fool, my friend. I know that such things are possible, even probable. Greed and power, both religious and secular, are very addictive. It used to be the Church that did all the stuff you now relegate to the Rothschilds and Rockefellers. Power corrupts.

Also, Jesus is often called Judahite. No one knows for certain. He supposedly comes from the line of David, though again, not certain. If he comes from that lineage, then Mary was no virgin. You cannot have it both ways.
If Jesus was the True Messiah, then he must have come from the House of David. And he must fulfill prophecy, which he did NOT. He died; he did not set up the New Kingdom on earth. It's over. Get used to it.
Also, Judaism is a religion, not a race.

And you are right about one thing. I am not called. Calvinist predestination has seen to that. And, if you know anything about the New Testament, you know it's a Calvinist document. The Called were chosen before the foundation of the world. No one can change the number called. No one can get anyone else saved. Either you were picked from the beginning or you weren't. Nothing in the Cosmos can change that.
But of course, I am not called. And I don't believe a word of the Calvinist Credo. The Spirit in which I trust is not the Beast of Genesis called YHWH. The Spirit in which I trust is Everywhere Present, and nothing is separate from It. That's why I know that you are fine, in a good place, and eternally safe. You, on the other hand, have got caught up in the superstitious doctrines passed down to us by the Unenlightened and must believe that I am hellbound because I won't submit to the God of your choice.
So be it. I would rather spend eternity in hell that to spend a single moment with a god who would allow a hell for the majority of its own creation.

The only problem is, none of the above is true. As I said several posts back, you cannot use the book to prove the book. If the Bible is the only so-called proof, then there is no proof whatsoever. And since you are making the truth claims, the burden of proof rests with you. So far, I have read nothing from you that even comes close to proof, let alone truth. You have to admit, the offerings are flimsy at best.
I must take on faith that the universe is as it should be. The laws are in place and the creator of the laws never breaks them. Anything that happens in the world is completely natural.
Besides, some of the other ancient myths are much more interesting, such as the Egyptian myth of Horus (which, by the way, is a dying/rising savior god legend that precedes Jesus by a few thousand years and is probably the basis of the Gospel rendering), or the Indian myth of Brahma, or the Greek myths of Apollo or Dionysus, or Athena. Great stuff.
Point is, Bible stories are not necessarily original to the Bible. Mostly borrowed, always myth.

If you believe in Universal Salvation, what exactly do you mean by born again? The two points are necessarily contradictory.
Universal Salvation means everyone is saved. Born again means some are saved, some aren't.

How do you work that out?
Universal Salvation means everyone will be Born of the Holy Spirit. No one can be saved unless they are.
Born Again means saved, whether now in this age, or in a future age.
In actuality, the whole "saved" thing is bogus. There was no original sin. Hence, no need for salvation. We are behaving exactly as we are created to behave, both good and bad. Blame the creator, not the created. It's like saying the lion is to blame for chasing, catching, and eating the gazelle.
We are only playing out our created role. We can choose our way out of world destruction. Whether we do or not is up to us.
But that is the nature of the beast. Free will means that nothing is inevitable. Otherwise, it's just predestination. And we both know that's a lie, don't we?
The only way to get anything valuable out of the Bible is to first reject it as any kind of Ultimate Truth. Then, the gems will show themselves. Humans actually do have a few good things to say. And since the Bible is human-created, it may take a bit to find the good stuff. But keep looking. One day, you'll find it. That is, after you get past all the supernatural nonsense.
